INTERTRIBAL THEATRE PROJECT (ITP) STATEMENT OF INTENTION

ITP will develop a global center for the creation, development, and performance of indigenous theatre, recognizing that a strong cultural voice remains integral to progressive political and social activism.

ITP will operate in the best tradition of dedicated story tellers and theatre producers, committed to excellence in craft and entertainment.

ITP will serve local and regional communities in the areas of culture, education, tradition, sacred site reintegration, and economic revitalization.

ITP will serve the greater Arizona indigenous community, indigenous peoples of the Americas, and the world by representing and communicating the American Indian experience.

ITP will serve as a model of responsible entrepreneurship, fulfilling and meeting practical expectations in the business marketplace.

ITP will promote awareness of Indigenous talent and performances, and develop the potential of those skills and abilities, serving the community of Native American theatre artists by providing opportunities in the form of conferences, providing of performance spaces for artists, and theatrical production.

ITP excludes no particular background or affiliation relative to participation in ITP activities, but will remain committed to the establishment and incorporation of Native Theatre and the inclusion of Native people at every level of operation. ITP is a Native-centered project.

ITP recognizes the ancient and traditional relation of performative activities to healing, both individually and socially; ITP is committed to community healing and to the building of individual strength and health through social activities.
